One of the greatest rock bands you will ever see, Redd Kross, return to Columbus Ohio with a show Monday September 22nd at the A&R Bar opening for Melvins. Click here for tickets.
I recently reached out to RK bassist extraordinaire Steve McDonald with a fun question: You can put out a record with twelve songs consisting of four each from Redd Kross, KISS and Cheap Trick. What would be on side A and side B?
Steve replied promptly but while he was thinking about Cheap Trick, it made him think about The Beatles so he inadvertently used the fab four instead of KISS. (editor’s note - THANK GOD!!!) I think reasonable people can agree The Beatles and KISS are basically the same thing so we decided to let it slide in the name of rock n roll. Also, Redd Kross is in the middle of a lengthy tour so it’s not our job to be as confused as Steve. I’ve been there myself and I really appreciate him responding to my silly query. Here you go…..
Steve McDonald’s Record Consisting Of Redd Kross, The Beatles and Cheap Trick
Side A)
Helter Skelter
He’s A Whore
Stay Away From Downtown
Voices
Rain
Follow The Leader (Long Version)
Side B)
Don’t Bother Me
I’ll Take Your Word For It
Come On Come On (Budokan)
Candy Coloured Catastrophe
Revolution (single)
Auf Wiedersehen
Whoa….opening with “Helter Skelter” and “He’s A Whore” certainly sets the tone from the jump. Imagine if Steve had chosen to kick things off with “Rocky Raccoon” and “Ride The Pony”? Anyway, hard to argue with those twelve tunes and I think it provides a little insight into why seeing Redd Kross is an essential rock n roll activity whenever they come to your town.
