Dear Montréal -
Your Canadiens hockey team are my #2 team after the Red Wings, and have been for a couple decades, even before I ever played a show there and formulated so many wonderful relationships with awesome people in that city. I went into our run to Western/Central New York last week rooting for them even harder, knowing & bummed that people would be staying home watching their Sabres rather than out seeing an unknown band from Detroit playing their own songs about chasing girls around 30 years ago, regretting various past indiscretions, Nancy Sinatra, and, well, okay, I guess that pretty much sums up our catalog.…
Anyhow, over the weekend, seeing how passionate and ingrained the people of WNY were in the Sabres and that series, I found myself on the couch last night, ears ringing, eyelids heavy with exhaustion, rooting for Buffalo. So much in common with Detroit there, from the years of frustration as an under-producing team to being a worn-down Rust Belt river city doing their best (and succeeding) to make a comeback, I couldn't help but to pull for them.
I'm glad the Habs are advancing, and think they earned it after that crazy series and game that saw so many changes of momentum. I know my Montréal friends are every bit as passionate or more about their team, and from here, and moving forward, I hope they win the cup. Vive Les Habitants! #GoHabsGo Original Six!!!
Meanwhile, good showing Buffalo, and I'm bummed for my friends that they lost. This team has a big heart and let’s hope they get further next year. Come fall, I think Josh Allen and your Buffalo Bills NFL team deserve it as much as anyone, and I'll be rooting for them too (after our sorry-ass Lions and the Broncos).
